Congrats on all the published work, you’re a star!! Also the only time I’ve been to Montreal was in september and it was so close to perfect I thought about immigrating right then and there.

Writers & Lovers is a forever fav, but I’m never quite sure if it was just a right time, right place sort of read. you have me wanting to reread it to find out !! and def picking up shred sisters now on your rec

Also also bc I can’t shut up, seeing The Substance TONIGHT and also really loving English Teacher (spot on about being so close to millennial cringe lmao but it works) and am fascinated by Popstar Academy too!! Ok I’m done now 😭

Omg you got so lucky, you came on what is likely one of two right moments to visit the city.

Don't want to say more about The Substance, but I hope you have fun with it!

You musttttttt read Shred Sisters--really one of my faves of the year already. Haven't gotten it out of my head since I read it.

Congrats on your two pieces published! I just read my first Enriquez story collection at the end of August (Things We Lost in the Fire) and would love to hear your thoughts on A Sunny Place for Shady People --deciding whether I'll try to pick up that one next or give her novel a shot!

Thank you!!

I've only ever read her short stories--I think the length of Our Share of Night spooked me a bit, but it's still sitting on my shelf. She's a fabulous writer, I'm sure I'll love it when I do pick it back up.

I couldn't tell you a single thing that happened on the latest season of Selling Sunset other than Chelsea's dedication to a scholar-themed wardrobe (which... I loved, very Twilight Zone).

I spent the summer a bit more MIA, I was writing short stories and chasing publication for them! It's such a hustle, I don't know how people do it constantly.

I loved Writers and Lovers too! It’s relatable because, well, it’s about life and most people go through Casey’s experience in some form or another.

Congrats on your two pieces Nic!! I also love you decided to talk about all the books you read again (bc I loved it last month).

I have had my eye on Hombrecito, so I am glad to hear it got your approval! I love that you loved Small Worlds - Nelson is SUCH a good writer. I will forever read whatever he writes, there is so much magic in his words. I am intrigued by Shred Sisters - especially dynamic of polar opposite sisters bc I have that in my own life and I often feel I rarely come across explorations of that in books.

I have to admit, I want to watch The Substance to be part of this cultural commentary but my first said it was the goriest thing she'd ever seen and I am a baby when it comes to on-screen gore. Is it really that bad? I saw Didi, Prima Facie and Sing Sing all recently. All very good in very different ways.

Re bedside stack - Living Things!!! I read that in June and I really enjoyed it. I wouldn't massively say it is horror, more just unsettling in a 'is this really how our world is' way. I did really like it though, it's a really quick read and I think explores a lot of really interesting themes. I have never read Enriquez before, but I have just (yesterday) started Our Share of Night. I have no idea that to expect really.
