Yes! The writing in The Cure for Drowning was great, even with a war setting I enjoyed it!

First pics are gorgeous! I’m happy to have inspired 🤠 I’m here for you talking about every book you’ve read (if you do choose to continue). I really love knowing what people didn’t like - I think it makes the book they loved glow more?!

Love the Boulder love & agree w When I Sing comments. On a technical level I was enthralled by the povs & imagination but I equally found it hard to feel grounded when I read it. I do recommend it to people if they have a copy but I do think it could’ve been much tighter in many ways!

Your review of Another Country has made me want to read it even MORE. Also I’ve always avoided Hurricane Season despite liking Melchor bc I’ve heard so many people say it is dense and hard as hell to read - so feeling validated by your comments. Finally - I enjoyed the Orbital comments! Have had my eye on it since the #list because I feel like space done well can be so good! Will try grab it soon! A great month

ok i'm tapped into strange darling. almost saw it yesterday but your vote of confidence puts it on my must watch list!

i love fernanda melchor's paradais but totally get that the dense, long-winded sentences are not for everyone. it's probably why i'm taking a bit of a break before i pick up hurricane season.

It’s definitely worth the watch!

I think I’ll definitely have to hold off on reading more Melchor. It weird because I usually really respond to a heavy handed style, but not for Hurricane Season.

Completely agree about the Sola — I felt the point was that it was a collection of vignettes akin (unironically) to a lightening strike, and we see its effects on everything without feeling particularly grounded because lightening is, well, ungrounded. Train is also my next Baldwin lol — I picked it up just the other day! Hesitating to start because I loved Another Country so much and cannot get it out of my head.

And the cottage pics????? SO CUTE

The Sola was really interesting because I think it was well done and I get what the intention was, but it still didn’t completely work for me.

The back half of Baldwin’s novel catalogue gets a lot less attention (other than the Beale Street movie) so I’m interested to see how they are!

I am super excited about the new Kushner and I have yet to read Boulder, your note about it made me realize it's time to bump it up the list.

Not that you need more books added to yours but I just finished Small Rain, the new novel by Garth Greenwell which is beautiful and I have a feeling you would love.

You absolutely should bump Boulder!

I think you’re right about Small Rain, and I’ve actually never read any Greenwell… something I’ll need to remedy soon!!

The pictures at the beginning of this are breathtaking. You’ve had such a full month! Also, need to discuss Creation Lake with you as soon as you finish.

I’m so excited to read it! The premise doesn’t feel so Booker Prize Nominee to me, so I’m interested to see how it comes together

I finished Another Country, too. Took me a while! Any plans to read Small Rain? Evenings & Weekends?
