I really want to say something smart but whenever Espresso enters the conversation my brain can only repeat the phrase "that's that me Espresso" for 72 hours straight
Cinematic specificity is such an apt way to describe "Never going home"! The way she compares something as random/fleeting as a stranger's jacket to such a particular memory like the seats of a car. the detail of the word "kind" to describe their eyes too...
I can't help looking for you at the bar
Catch a glimpse of someone with kind eyes, dancing
Whose jacket's the same color as the seats in your car
Also, "I'm still tryin' to clean up my side of the street" on DFM is probably the most accurate summing up of my life (all of our lives?) I've heard/read in a while. thanks for sharing your thoughts, it's lovely reading you, as always!
Thank you!!! Such great callouts. I didn't mention DFM because I guess it's been living in me for a long time, but yes 1000%! Beautiful writing throughout.
"It has the indescribable Lisa Loeb/Michelle Branch/Natalie Imbruglia quality of being able to make a gay teenage boy scream-sing the songs coming from the cassette player in his 1999 Toyota Tercel" yes yes YES precisely
All 3 books sound so so good - particularly interested in ‘Here After’ and ‘Housemates’!! I agree re Maggie comments! I think writing something like an album in a concentrated 5 days is a major strength? There is no hurried vibe, just someone who is so connected to their voice & self. Also writing time does not account for all the thinking and reflection time before writing that is impossible to measure? ‘The Kill’ is also a fav of mine.
Ps the sentimental section is so so sweet - so pleased to hear you have such a group for your writing - a necessity. I’m so excited we get to read your work one day. Also you really really glow in all shades of blue.
Have you read/will you be reading How It Works Out when it comes out this upcoming week? Your reviews are always so spot on I need to know your thoughts lol

So true about time before creation. Ideas can cook for years and come out in an hour!
OMG THANK YOU 💙
