Memorial was good but at times I wanted more, please write about it when you read it. It's a great book and a wonderful tale of what it means to be a couple as well as cross cultural interactions, but left me wanting.

Oh interesting!!!! Sometimes I like restraint, but will keep an eye on this!

Lots to add to my TBR! I think I'm on round 3 or 4 of the Artist's Way and it's not looking good...one of these days surely I'll finish it?

Nic Marna's avatar

There must be some people who have finished it….. right?

The Town of Babylon was one of my favorite books I read last year! Such a good commentary on suburban life and the regression that inevitably happens when you go back to living with your parents, even for a bit. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it!

Nic Marna's avatar

Oh it’s one of my favourite books of all time! I’ve been wanting to reread it for a few years.

The dissection of suburbia is SO fascinating. I love it so much!

Human Acts was the first book I read then The Vegetarian. and yes I agree that she really defies definition. my reading experience of her went 360. I wonder what surprise will I get next? Planning to read Greek Lessons soon.

It's just so cool that she does so many things so well. Excited to keep reading! Greek Lessons is next for me too 😊

a friend sold personal attention roleplay to me as “for anyone who has yearned in montreal,” a perfect descriptor.

i loved lerner’s topeka school but that does not have a “point” other than, “what if boys are lonely?”

Nic Marna's avatar

Lonely boys… in Kansas…. I don’t know!!!

Laurel Clayton's avatar

wait also, the only way to the do the artists way is a group. you need friends to be ask questions like, why is she talking about owning a horse, or, which director is she vaguebooking about here

Nic Marna's avatar

Would you believe that half my writing group is currently doing it. Daily check-ins, chatting through it and I still can’t bring myself to continue 😇

free yourself from julia’s shackles

I have also tried Ali Smith. I read Autumn, dragged myself through it and decided I would not be indulging Spring, Summer or Winter 😅

Nic Marna's avatar

Ok so I am not alone!

Tried The Artist’s Way last week too… I guess I’m not meant to be famous. 😭

Nic Marna's avatar

Also…. All the ‘Creator’ talk is hard to get through

Nic Marna's avatar

I think you can take it with a grain of salt. When I did it last time, I really did a lot of the work on myself and my circle to protect my creative practice. What I’m keeping from TAW is artist dates and brain dumping more in a journal (not so much morning pages, but something like that).

overcompensating is next on my list, excited to watch!! also the stick of butter bag omg need

Nic Marna's avatar

You neeeeeeed to watch!!!

Not you BLAMING me for the Lerner!!!!!!! ffs I hang my head in shame. We were sold a lie. And honestly shade TO Kansas.

Definitely interested in reading Human Acts & have been meaning to read Memoiral for such a long time! Were on a bad buddy reading streak we need to end immediately

Nic Marna's avatar

Many people in my DMs were depending Kansas! I don’t know much about it, so I had to give a disclaimer to the shade.

I think we could read Memorial and finally have another successful buddy read 👀👀
